Treat the symptom, not the cause. This seems to be the philosophy of Western medicine. We "fix" ailments with pills, but don't bother looking at what creates the symptoms. Of course, this "fix" doesn't cure anything. Without taking care of the symptom, it'll only reoccur. Other cultures regard medicine differently. The Navajo, for example, have a lovely concept known as hozho. There's no simple translation for it in Enlish. Consider the sensation of being at complete peace with the world. That is hozho. Imagine how you feel when you treat people and the environment with respect. That is hozho. To the Navajo, sickness occurs when people are not in hozho. The only way they can treat this by repairing their relationships with family, friends, enemies, and Mother Earth. The East has a similar belief system. According to Hindus, there are seven points of energy along our body, called chakras. Each chakra has a certain property. Combined, they give us strength and support in all areas of life. If one gets out of balance, we become weak in that area, and may rely on other sources to make up for that weakness. This leads to addictions like alcoholism, eating disorders, sex, and gambling. Listed below are the seven chakras, their properties, and how you can heal them. Treat the symptom by curing the cause.
